MRR2 Kepong flyover reopens 1 August

A news report over RTM1’s Warta Perdana confirms that the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) flyover in Kepong reopens Tuesday 1 August 2006. Only 4 out of the 6 lanes of the 2km flyover will be opened to traffic. The flyover was closed since early February 2006 when it was reported that the cracks on 31 of the 33 pillars supporting the flyover worsen.

Earlier, the flyover was closed to heavy vehicles in May 2004 and fully closed in August 2004 when cracks were discovered on the affected pillars. However, 4 out of 6 lanes was reopened to traffic in December 2004. A news report over Utusan Malaysia in January 2006 revealed the worsening of the cracks that lead to the closure in February 2006 for repair works.

As of this typing, it is learned that repair works are 70% completed and the relevant authorities have certified that the 4 inner lanes safe for all traffic.
