The Putra LRT service between Masjid Jamek and Terminal Putra stations was interrupted due to glitches at 7am today, leaving thousands of commuters stranded. Service is expected to return to normal only tomorrow.
This is the 2nd major breakdown in about 2 months, the first was when a breakdown during the evening rush hour left thousands stranded, some inside stalled trains in the subway between Pasar Seni and Ampang Park stations.
What has happened to the reliability of such an important public transport in the Klang Valley? What if there are university or college students who are to sit for examinations and they will miss their exams? What if some commuters are to have urgent or important appointments? Perhaps it’s time the authorities look into this problem seriously, especially with Putra LRT which operates its trains in driverless mode.

I think poor maintenence is the main cause for this \’catastrophic\’ event. Doors not opening, poor air conditioning, tickets counter malfunctioning, frequent breakdowns and weak security. Believe it or not, a thief can easily bypass the security and get a free ride.
