‘Spiderman’ is back, after 10 years

20 March 1997

Alain Robert, a French rock climber who scaled many high rise buildings, scaled up the Petronas Tower 1 in Kuala Lumpur with his bare hands without any safety equipment. His attempt was however stopped by the authorities at the 60th floor of the building. He was subsequently detained but released a number of days later. Eventually, he tried to obtain permission to scale the tower but was declined. Instead, he was invited to scale the Sabah Foundation building in Kota Kinabalu.

20 March 2007

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of his attempt to climb the Petronas Twin Towers, this time, Alain Robert scaled up Tower 2, carrying the Jalur Gemilang, the Malaysian flag with him. His attempt however was also stopped at the 60th floor before he finally gave up to the authorities. He is now detained and may be charged for his attempt. It is learnt that Robert was seen taking photos of the building and surveying the area 3 months ago.
