Traffic lights at Batu Caves roundabout worsen the traffic congestion

Recently, traffic lights are installed at the Batu Caves roundabout intersection between the Kuala Lumpur-Rawang road and Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) with the intention to solve the traffic congestion at this notorious roundabout. It had been a common scene for congestion to occur in this roundabout as everyone tries to squeeze in and out of the roundabout and nobody willing to give way. Hence, the traffic light is used instead.

But, unfortunately, the traffic lights have resulted in longer queues, causing the traffic congestion to extend towards the Kuala Lumpur-Rawang road. A better alternative is seriously need to be considered instead. Here’s a suggestion:

  1. The roundabout is to be closed for good. Traffic is only allowed to make a left turn from all directions.
  2. Three U-turn ramps are to be built:
    • A: Batu Caves - Kepong on MRR2.
    • B: Batu Caves - Rawang on Kuala Lumpur-Rawang road.
    • C: Batu Caves - Kuala Lumpur on Kuala Lumpur-Rawang road.
  3. Traffic from Kuala Lumpur to Batu Caves and Gombak is to make a left turn and make a U-turn at the proposed U-turn ramp A.
  4. Traffic from Rawang to Kepong is to turn left and make a U-turn under the flyover in front of the Hindu temple.
  5. Traffic from Kepong to Kuala Lumpur is to turn left and make a U-turn at the proposed U-turn ramp B.
  6. Traffic from Batu Caves to Rawang is to turn left and make a U-turn at the proposed U-turn ramp C.
