Install red light cameras at all expressway intersections!

On Thursday 9 August 2007 at around 2.30am, I was driving along Kerinchi Link from Sri Hartamas, turning right at the Bukit Kiara interchange to Damansara Link heading towards SS2. Just as I was turning, a car from Kuala Lumpur turning right into Kerinchi Link did not stop, crashed onto me, severely damaging the left side of my car, especially the rear door and sped off. I could not even recognize the car nor its registration number. A police report was lodged but was told that nothing can be done without the culprit’s car registration number. Besides, the culprit could be a drunk driver, driving under the influence of alcohol.

Now, since the incident occurred on a toll expressway, the question is, what will the highway concessionaires do to prevent these culprits from breaking the law? We cannot expect the police to set up road blocks at every location, every day. However, many municipal roads have red light cameras installed at busy junctions to book those who disobey the traffic lights! How about highway concessionaires install red light cameras along major intersections? It will help in my case where the police would be able to get the co-operation of Sprint to locate the registration number of the car who disobey the traffic lights!
