KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) — Heart transplant patient Tee Hui Yi, 14, is showing positive progress and in stable condition after she is taken off the ventilator a few days ago.
National Heart Institute (IJN) Heart and Lung Transplant Coordinator Noor Salina Othman said Hui Yi’s condition would continue to be monitored to ensure she remained healthy.
“What is more crucial is for her to undergo physiotherapy treatment so that she will regain her physical strength,” she said when contacted today.
She also said Hui Yi was currently on a soft diet and was able to eat soup and porridge, but would still require supplementary nutrients fed through the tube in her nose.
She also said Hui Yi was still placed in the Intensive Care Unit as a precaution to protect her from any infection.
Hui Yi underwent a second heart transplant on Oct 5 after her body rejected the first heart transplanted in her on Oct 3.

BATU PAHAT: The Johor MCA has urged the government to build a new jetty in Mersing quickly as the current one cannot cope with the large number of tourists.
Its chief Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said plans to build the new jetty were announced under the Ninth Malaysia Plan but there was still been no action.
“A new jetty that can operate 24 hours and accommodate a bigger capacity of tourists should be built.
“The present one is not open for 24 hours and it operates depending on the tide,” he said, adding that the condition of the present jetty could discourage tourist confidence and interest in visiting Pulau Tioman.
Dr Chua told a press conference after chairing the Johor MCA liaison committee meeting that the state government and the Mersing community had looked forward to having a new jetty for quite some time because the tourism industry was very important here.
The proposed location for the new jetty is at Pulau Batu Cawan, Mersing. The present jetty is situated in Kuala Sungai, Mersing.
On another matter, Dr Chua said Johor MCA would continue to give full co-operation to the police and NGOs in increasing the level of security in Johor, especially Johor Baru.
He said the police had done a good job as the crime rate had gone down. A total of 15,646 cases was recorded this year compared to 16,922 last year.
