What time do you begin your ‘balik kampung’ journey during festive season?

During major festive season, in particular Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri where a majority of city folks go back to their hometowns for a week-long holiday, expressways and main routes will be choked with traffic. Hence, the question is when do you begin your journey during such occassions?

F0r me, avoid traveling on the eve of the festival. Subject to the day of week the festival fall, I usually go back at least 2 days before the festival date. And in case of 2 days before the festival, I shall begin my journey at 6am. Usually traffic is heavy but smooth flowing, able to go 110kph along the North-South Expressway. In other situations, I usually begin my journey around 6am but not later than 7am.

Of course some others would prefer to take a good sleep and start their journey later in the day, say 10am. While some would spend the wee hours of the morning traveling, beginning their journey around midnight or 3am.

How about you?
