KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 (Bernama) — Tee Hui Yi, the double heart transplant patient, was today allowed to leave the National Heart Institute (IJN) for two weeks to celebrate Christmas with her adopted mother.
IJN’s heart transplant coordinator Dr Norsalina Othman said that Hui Yi, 14, was allowed to do so as her health condition had improved and that she was having a better appetite while her weight had increased.
“However, she will need to return to the IJN for follow-up treatment to ensure her body does not reject this second heart,” she told Bernama.
She added that health permitting, Hui Yi could start schooling as early next month.
“Previously Hui Yi’s weight was about 34.7kg but now it has almost reached 37kg,” she said.
Dr Norsalina said the IJN had asked Hui Yi’s parents to make sure that their home in Batu Pahat, Johor is kept clean to prevent germs from breeding.
Hui Yi underwent the second heart transplant operation on October 5 after her body rejected the first from a male donor from Sitiawan, Perak.
