Yesterday was Thaipusam public holiday and all shopping destinations were crowded with people buying their stuff in preparation for Chinese New Year. And in major malls, shoppers were entertained with various performance in conjunction with Chinese New Year since the past 1 or 2 weeks.
1 Utama had a “Spring Flower Dance Show” and another “Acrobatic Lion Dance” yesterday afternoon.



In case you may be wondering, here are the dates of Chinese New Year until the year 2014.
- 2008: Thu 7 Feb - 戊子年 Year of the Rat
- 2009: Mon 26 Jan - 己丑年 Year of the Ox
- 2010: Sun 14 Feb - 庚寅年 Year of the Tiger
- 2011: Thu 3 Feb - 辛卯年 Year of the Rabbit
- 2012: Mon 23 Jan - 壬辰年 Year of the Dragon
- 2013: Sun 10 Feb - 癸巳年 Year of the Snake
- 2014: Fri 31 Jan - 甲午年 Year of the Horse

The countdown to Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is 19 days. Major shopping malls in the Klang Valley have lined up various cultural performances to welcome the Year of the Rat. Over in 1 Utama (New Wing), a floral-theme decoration is set up at Oval and throughout the entire mall. Performances such as acrobatic shows and lion dances are scheduled to entertain shoppers.

KUALA LUMPUR: The speed limit on federal and state roads will be reduced from 90kph to 80kph from Jan 31 to Feb 14 to make travel safer during the Chinese New Year period.
Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said all roadworks would be suspended during the period.
