The Star reports that beginning 30 April, RTM1 will telecast live question and answer sessions in the Parliament during days when Parliament is in session. The broadcast will be from 10am to 10.30am. Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said there will be no censorship on the telecast and that his ministry will consider extending the time if there is positive feedback to the move.
This move to telecast Parliament sessions live is a good start. I hope that the Information Ministry will extend the broadcasting time to at least 4 hours a day with 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. With RTM having 2 television channels, RTM1 and RTM2, the telecast can be shown alternately between the 2 channels. Perhaps the Information Ministry can also work out an idea with private television channels such as Media Prima owned TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9 as well as pay TV operators Astro and MITV to provide airtime for Parliament sessions.
