Yet another express bus tragedy

Bernama reports that an express travelling north towards Kuala Lumpur overturned on the North-South Expressway near the Seremban toll plaza at 3.45am today. The mishap killed 1 passenger, Mohd Arshad Razali, 23 and injured 31 others, including the driver, Mohd Shahrani Mohamad, 23. Shahrani had just joined the bus company based in Taiping, 3 months ago. The ill-fated bus is said to have 52 summonses since February 2004, mainly for speeding offences!

Have we all forgot about the Slim River bus tragedy in late January where 3 people were killed? Outraged friends and family of Lee Nian Ning, one of the victims of the Slim River bus tragedy launched campaigns for a safer bus ride with the tragedy highlighted in the media and blogs for several days. A blog was set up shortly after the tragedy and an online petition launched to collect signatures from the people to petition for changes to be done to ensure express bus operators go by the law.

More than 2 months have passed since the tragedy, only for us to be shocked by another fatal express bus crash. Will the new Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat initiate something for the sake of a safe bus ride for all?
